What The Pit is

One room. One screen. Everyone joins the fight.

  • The TV is the arena. Your phone is your vessel.

Two to six of you in one room. The big screen shows the hex arena; every phone is the private controller for your Vessel.

  • Every attack is called. Every roll is seen.

The narrator calls the action while 3D dice tumble across the screen. The results of combat stay in plain sight.

  • A progressive campaign

Your campaign remembers. Vessels earn Scars and Favor, and when one falls an Heir may rise. Session after session, the race runs to 10 victories.

How a session begins

Four steps from couch to arena.

  1. Open the app

The host signs in with Google or email at app.ravelrpg.com and starts a campaign.

  2. Pair the TV

Open table.ravelrpg.com on the TV or a laptop. Scan its code with the host’s phone.

  3. Friends join

Everyone else scans the code on the screen, or types it in. Two to six can play.

  4. Forge and fight

Each player forges a Vessel on their phone. The cards turn over, and the arena opens.

The game in four phases

Buy. Bet. Fight. Grow. Then do it again.

  1. A hooded, grinning Vendor behind a candlelit stall of potions, blades and coins.

    Phase 1

    Market

The vendor flips item cards and every player bids in secret. All bids are revealed at once and the highest bid takes the prize.

  2. A blood-stained table of coins, dice cups and candles, with the arena glowing behind it.

    Phase 2

    Bet

The underdog sets the field and the pot fills with coin. Then everyone places wagers on the upcoming battle.

  3. A torch-lit arena under a red moon, its crowd packed along the walls.

    Phase 3

    Arena

Fighters take their corners on the arena’s board. Move, strike, cast, and use abilities from your phone while the dice tumble on the big screen.

  4. A candlelit crypt of helmets and swords, a stone altar under a single shaft of light.

    Phase 4

    Progression

Winners are paid in Coin and Favor. The fallen are revived or replaced by an Heir, and Favor buys new power.

Questions

What do I need to play?

A TV or laptop with a web browser for the arena, a phone for each player, and two to six people in the same room. Everyone signs in with Google or an email address.

How long is a session?

About 30 to 60 minutes. A match with four fighters runs roughly 15 to 25 minutes, and your campaign picks up where it left off next time.

Is it free for the players I invite?

Yes. Only the host buys the game, once (founding price $20). Everyone the host invites plays free, always.

Can I play remotely?

Not today. The Pit is designed for one room: one big screen, with everyone’s phones in the same place. Remote play is not supported.

Is The Pit a real tabletop game?

It is based on the physical tabletop game The Pit. Ravel is its digital table: the arena, the dice and the bookkeeping are handled for you, so you can just play.

Does my progress carry over?

Yes. A campaign remembers its Vessels, Scars, Favor and victories between sessions.

Gather the table.

The arena is waiting. Bring a TV, bring your friends, bring your nerve.
